Shrewsbury Chronicle Review of:
"Mr. Weaver's Shrewsbury Tales"
Castle show is a real winner for the Guild
If you haven't already been along to Shrewsbury Castle to see Mr Weaver's Shrewsbury Tales, make sure you get there before the end of the run on Saturday.
This show is a real winner for the Theatre Guild, a polished package tour
of the county's famous people, sights and myths with a script bursting with
virtually every element ever proved to entertain a crowd.
Always intelligent and highly amusing, the script was bounced along by some
excellent high-energy acting
With deft post-modernist touches it
trained a 20th century torch onto
history to, on opening night,
uproarious laughter and applause.
This is not just a parochial panto -
imagine the wit of a good radio
show and then add visuals which
never disappoint
It has a surprise around every corner
and also a depth and substance which
are a delight to behold.
A 'degree' in Shropshire history wasn't essential to enjoy the show - far
from it - there was plenty to keep the most diverse audience diverted.
For once you can believe the hype - it's good, get there.
