Will Kemp was a comic superstar.
A top banana of his day. His hilarious sketches or "jigs" were famous throughout England and across the continent. He was one of the original command performers when a royal command really did mean a summons from the monarch. When he went into partnership with classical actor Richard Burbage and up-and-coming playwright William Shakespeare, trouble was bound to follow. "Shakerags" in particular, had no concept of what humor was about.
Chris Harris as Will Kemp is wonderful company. Gloriously vulgar and proud of it, he dances from London to Norwich stopping en route to demonstrate a "jig", explain the superiority of stuffed dogs, and set the bard spinning in his grave with the performance he moved heaven and earth to prevent....will Kemp as the nurse in Romeo and Juliet.
